CMA is the convener and backbone support for the WeCanStopSTDsLA movement.

The Movement

The health and vitality of South LA youth are at serious risk by a preventable epidemic—sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

 

WeCanStopSTDsLA is a movement that brings together providers, parents, youth, faith leaders, policy makers and others to work together to reduce the high rates of sexually transmitted infections and diseases in South Los Angeles are of LA County Supervisorial District 2 (D2 South LA).

 

WeCanStopSTDsLA’s Vision and Mission are:

 

Vision: Youth and young adults in South LA living healthy lifestyles in a thriving and supportive community.

 

Mission: Bringing communities together within Los Angeles County Supervisorial District 2 and South Los Angeles to reduce the high cases of STDs and promote sexual and reproductive health among youth and young adults.

THE CHALLENGE

In 2012, the community came together in response to the high rates of Sexually Transmitted Infection and Disease among African American and Latino youth and young adults the community. Their belief is that it is in working together that they can make an impact.

THE STRATEGY

Supported by Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas’ office and the Los Angeles County of Public Health Division of HIV & STD Programs (DHSP), the CAC initiatives increase the availability of and access to high quality, youth-friendly, sexual health services while fostering comprehensive STI prevention and health education programs.
